GPS and 1PPS Infrastructure - Introduction
- Use
- To provide the synchronizing signal requirements of Dalman Satsync and, when in simulcast mode, Solar IP Network Interface and Cosmos Line Interface products.
This range of building blocks can be used to assemble synchronizing signal infrastructures from simple to very high capacity sites with redundancy.
- Deriving 1PPS
- The basic source of globally coherent 1PPS is the GPS and there are Dalman equipment inventories to serve two methods of aquiring this 1PPS. It is also possible for Dalman products to use a 3rd party 1PPS - consult the factory.
- For a 1PPS signal to be categorized as a valid 1PPS for use as a synchronizing reference (v1PPS) it must be reliable, consistent and coherent with similar signals at other geographical locations; i.e. all occurrences of v1PPS are in phase.
- 1PPS distribution, delivery and back-up.
- The 1PPS synchronizing signal is distributed in RS422 form and is accompanied by a second stream of serial RS422 data to describe its validity. Distribution and back-up of the data streams is provided for within a number of cables and units which can be assembled to the degree of complexity required.
